I’m sharing with you guys today my life and experiences being a “plus-size” girl or a “curvy girl.” I’m that person that is easily annoyed by the comments like, “Oh, you’re pretty to be a big girl” and “Big girls can’t wear everything petite girls can.” Let’s get this straight: just because I’m a curvy girl does not mean I’m not cute or can’t wear what a petite girl can. It frustrates me that many people look down on curvy girls in a way that they do not approve of them. We’re human just like everyone else. Why can’t we enjoy the pretty outfits and finer things like everyone else?
I’ve been a thick girl since I was little. My mom shopped for my clothes in the girls plus size section at JCPenny’s. She always made sure I was dressed with confidence. Going shopping I would always be upset not having the same style t-shirts or jeans as the regular size girl section did. Knowing I was not the expected size as the world wanted me to be upset me. Me being young and stylish, I love a crop top and an off the shoulder top. I feel like I could wear whatever I want especially if I’m confident with myself and my appearance.
Being a curvy girl is not a bad thing! There are so many brands that are now accepting the curvy community and making them the face of their brand. The curvy girl community is coming together to hold events, fashion shows, seminars, and more to network with other curvy girls! Life as a curvy girl is FUN, FABULOUS, & EMPOWERING! I’m confident knowing if I’m not the size the world expects me to be.
One day at a time, curvy girls are taking over; with confidence high and accepting our body size, we aren’t afraid to show the world our curves and style!
Be confident and love the skin you’re in.
Love, Gayla ?
